Service Guide

This guide can also be downloaded as a pdf and printed, click here

The main considerations when ordering are the Type of Collection, Size of Collection and also the Level of Service required.

This guide also provides important information to consider When You Order and  when you have your Delivery & Collection as well as advise on permissable Types of Waste and Safety considerations.

If you would prefer to discuss the options directly then our staff will be very happy to help you select the right service. Just call us on:

Type of Collection

The first consideration is the type of collection required.

We offer either a Skip Service or a Man & Van service. The table shows the key service features:

  Skip Man & Van
Available in different sizes?
If needed will the vehicle wait for waste to be loaded?
Suitable for lighter, easily handled waste (furniture, wood etc.)?
Collect on private property (subject to access)?
A skip will be placed on my property for me to load in my own time

(1 week)

Suitable for very heavy/loose waste (rubble, soil etc.)?
Will the driver help with loading? (extra cost)
Collect from public highway/path (subject to access)?

If you are in doubt then please call and we will be happy to advise you.

Size of Collection

We classify collections as Small, Medium & Large:

Small Skips can sometimes be delivered on a smaller skip truck*, so they can be good for limited access sites. It would be just possible, for example to fit a normal sized bath filled with the old tiles, wood and rubble.

Medium Skips can also sometimes be delivered on a smaller skip truck*, so they can be good for limited access sites. They might be typically used for a bigger job that might include a bath and some sizeable cupboards and a broken down shower cabinet for example.

Large Skips are the classic sized builder's skip that you see on sites all over the country. If you're doing that bathroom job but also want to clear out the loft and get rid of the old sofa then you need a full-sized builder's skip. But be careful, it might not fit on a small driveway.

Vans are usually standard ‘transit' style vans with the capacity to take the volumes of waste described above, but the waste must be manageable, light waste rather than rubble, soil etc..

The guide below may also help with your choice, it gives the approximate skip dimensions and the size and number of ‘wheelie bins', ‘rubbish bags' or ‘car loads' that the size equates to:

Small

Large

Service Level Comparison

When You Order

Please use our secure on-line system to get a quote and place your order. Alternatively call our operations centre on Freephone 08000 326 413 to talk to one of the team.

If you have specific requirements then please provide us with as much information as possible:

  • Can a large vehicle can gain access (10ft required for a standard skip lorry)?
  • Is the waste unusual or potentially dangerous in any respect?
  • Do you need delivery to be made in a certain area?
  • Are there access considerations?
  • Will a delivery or collection need to be made in your absence?

If in doubt please call us to check.

Skip Delivery & Collection

Providing you give us detailed delivery instructions it is not necessary for you to be present at delivery but please make sure that access is possible or additional charges may apply for an aborted journey.

Skips on the road (public highway) often require the purchase of a council licence, along with warning lights and cones. We can arrange this but you will need to call and let us know. For this reason we cannot take on-line bookings for on-road skips.

You will need to be present when the skip is collected as the driver is legally required to collect a signature to transfer responsibility for the waste; this applies to the man & van service as well.

Types of Waste

Skips and Man & Van services are solely for the disposal of general, non-hazardous waste; some common household items that cannot be put in a skip include: electrical equipment, fridges, freezers, old batteries, tyres, fluorescent light tubes, liquid paint, cement/concrete powder and suspected or actual asbestos material

If you have difficult or hazardous waste then please call us as we will most likely be able to arrange disposal, but it will need a separate quote.

Safety

You are responsible for the skip whilst using it on your own property and it is important to be aware that skips can be dangerous. Some important things to remember about safety:

  • Be aware of others whilst loading.
  • Don't overfill the skip as this makes them dangerous and in some cases impossible to lift.
  • The skip load should be level-loaded at or below the rim in order to collect safely.
  • Don't allow climbing in to a skip.
  • Don't use a plank as access for wheel-barrows.
  • Don't have fires in skips, it is illegal and you will be liable for replacement or repair costs.
  • Don't put liquids or sludges in a skip.

When loading your skip, please be aware that heavy lifting can cause injury
